Never Too Old To Play – 10 Things To Have Fun No Matter Your Age

bla bla bla

Hola Mamis & G-Ma’s!

It has been a pretty busy week here, but full of lots of fun!! All that fun got me thinking about how many people (adults mostly) do not play, or do not play enough.

It all started when a dear friend of mine, Musepa and myself headed over to the local spring fed swimming pool here. It is really lovely and surrounded by many large trees and wild areas in addition to mowed grassy areas where people relax, sunbathe, play music, do yoga, read, hand out with friends/family and pretty much have a good time.

We were sitting there and my dear friend noticed one of the large trees pretty nearby resembled a body from just below the buttocks and continuing up into the torso. We discussed this and laughed while Musepa took a nap nearby. She was so fascinated by it, we finally decided we needed to go over and check it out closer. The more we talked about it and noticed, the funnier we thought it was. We decided we wanted to pose by it, and take pictures with each of us standing in a pose resembling that of the tree.

However, one big problem came up. Both our swimming suits covered up our lower bodies (aka butt areas) so much that it didn’t look as much like the pose of the tree, so I suggested we pull our suits into a g-string position and try again (naked would have been better, but we decided that might not go over very well at the park). We giggled and laughed til we nearly cried while we helped each other get positioned to look like the tree and the other one took the pictures.

Finally, Musepa woke up so we enlisted him to take a few pics so we could both be in the photo together.

Afterwards, I thought about how great it felt to find something that we got so much enjoyment out of – to laugh and laugh over something like two little girls, and to be creative in our observations/perceptions. I also thought how rare it is that adults do that kind of thing. Others around may have thought we were drunk or high or something, but that was not the case at all. We are just two fun-loving, silly playful women, who like to enjoy life, and so we do… It may not sound that entertaining and other people may not have enjoyed it like we did, but boy it sure felt great to allow ourselves to laugh and get such delight from something. A couple days later, I saw an announcement for something called Bubblepalooza. A festival of… You guessed it! Everything to do with bubbles. An outdoor festival for kids and families with live music, food, games, sidewalk chalk and bubbles!! Bubble makers, bubble machines, and even bubble swimming pools!! I shared it with Mami and she said she would like to take Mr. Sweetie, so Musepa and I met her there. Watched some live music, sang along and danced with all the kids and then went to see the bubble swimming pools.

Mami seemed to think Mr. Sweetie would enjoy going in, but she was wearing a long dress and I was in biker shorts and an exercise top…. Presto! I took Mr. Sweetie and we went and played in the pool for a while. Even though he slipped down in the bubbles a couple times and I had to wipe his face completely off, he loved it!! I have to admit that when it was first suggested, I thought that I would rather not do it, but I decided to not let the opportunity pass. I mean, how often do you get the chance to play in a swimming pool of bubbles with a bunch of kids and a few adults? It was a blast and I am so glad I did it with Mr. Sweetie!

So here are some suggestions of things to do to have fun. Take a chance, let go, and have an adventure!!

1- Get some bubbles!! Of course!

2- Go swimming. In a pool, a lake, the ocean, or wherever. Get out there, splash around.

3- Go dancing. Take class, go to a party where there is dancing, go to a music hall or ecstatic dance event and shake loose!

4- Get some sidewalk chalk. Go outside and scribble, draw simple animals or made up things.

5- Get a coloring book and color. You can do this with a kid or two.

6- Sing. Put on your favorite song or album and belt it out.

7- Make up a song, get silly. Take one of your favorite songs and change the words to something else. These do not need to make sense, in fact, that makes it all the better!

8- Go see some live performance. Some suggestions would be improv comedy, music, etc.

9- Get out in nature. Go hiking, biking, or even explore your own neighborhood on foot. Notice things you have never noticed before. Get curious.

10- Take opportunities when they come up to join in with others and do something you may not have even thought of on your own. Examples I have done in the last few years are:  olympic bobsledding, indoor skydiving, ziplining, taking a comedy improv rap singing class, and riding a camel. All of which were very fun and I am happy I did. Stretch yourself.

Blessings to you and thank you for all the loving parenting you do; it makes a better world, one Sweetie at a time.

Hug attached,

Koolma  : )
